Mayrhofen lies at the end of Austria's Zillertal Valley, offering access to the Penkenbahn gondola and Ahornbahn cable car. You can challenge yourself on the Harakiri slope or enjoy family-friendly paths on Ahorn mountain. The town also features the Vans Penken Park for freestyle skiing and the Schlegeis reservoir for activities like abseiling.

Winter Sports and Skiing

In winter, Mayrhofen becomes a vibrant ski resort with 142 kilometers of pistes across six different areas. The Penken area is the center of skiing activity, home to the Harakiri—Austria's steepest groomed run with a 78% gradient. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders can explore six sections of the Vans Penken Park, each equipped with various jumps and obstacles. Beginners and families often choose the easier slopes of Ahorn, which includes a 5.5-kilometer run back to the valley. With the Zillertal Superskipass, you can ski on 542 kilometers of pistes across the entire valley, including the Hintertux Glacier, which offers year-round skiing.

Summer Activities

During the summer, Mayrhofen serves as a starting point for hiking and mountain biking. Over 1,400 kilometers of marked trails wind through the surrounding mountains, offering routes from easy walks to challenging alpine hikes. The Berlin High Trail, a multi-day hut-to-hut trek, begins near Mayrhofen and provides impressive views of the Zillertal Alps. Mountain bikers can navigate numerous trails or practice their skills at the Penken mountain bike park. For a different experience, visit the Schlegeis reservoir in the nearby Zemmgrund valley, where you can try abseiling and a via ferrata on the dam wall.
