Banja Luka is a city of surprises. It may be small by Bosnian standards, but it’s home to a lively and diverse population, with a well-preserved Ottoman quarter, a lively cafe culture and a booming nightlife. The main square is a wonderful place to people-watch, surrounded by historic buildings and a leafy park. The nearby riverfront is a great place to take a walk on a summer evening, and the old town is full of winding streets and beautiful mosques. Banja Luka is also a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, with its rolling hills, medieval villages and stunningly beautiful lakes.
