Sint-Truiden is a small city in the Belgian province of Limburg, about an hour’s drive from both Brussels and Maastricht. It’s a quiet place, but with a lively old centre full of narrow streets, timber-framed houses and a sprinkling of churches. The town hall, dating from the 16th century, is particularly impressive, as is the Grote Markt (Grand Place), surrounded by a mix of old and new buildings. There are also a few good museums, including the Groot Begijnhof (Grand Beguinage), a group of well-preserved medieval houses and gardens. In summer, the town comes to life with a series of festivals, including the well-known Gouden Carolus beer festival.
