Local buses connect Nova Petrópolis to neighboring towns, while having your own car gives you more flexibility to visit the surrounding countryside.

From Ninho das Águias (Eagles' Nest) Mountain Peak, you can see the Serra Gaúcha mountain ranges, valleys, and forests. The free viewing platform has benches and information panels about local geography. Visitors come here year-round to photograph the landscape, particularly during sunrise and sunset when the light creates distinct shadows across the valleys.

Several farms around Nova Petrópolis open their doors to visitors. You can stay in guest houses on active dairy farms, join morning milking sessions, or take guided horse rides through fields and pine forests. The farm owners serve traditional meals using ingredients from their vegetable gardens and dairy production, including homemade cheese, butter, and milk.

About 20,000 people live in Nova Petrópolis, with many tracing their ancestry to German immigrants. The town's economy relies on wool garment manufacturing, dairy farming, and shoe production. In the town center, you'll find wool shops selling locally made sweaters and scarves, while the dairy farms' cheese and milk products fill the shelves of town markets.
