Batna is a city in northeastern Algeria. It is the capital of Batna Province. The city, founded in the 11th century by the Banu Ifran, is located at the foot of the Aurès Mountains. Batna is a regional center for trade and industry. It is also an agricultural center, with vineyards and orchards in the surrounding area. The city is home to the University of Batna, founded in 1975.
