Cotopaxi National Park is a stunning natural landscape in Ecuador. At its heart is Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the highest active volcanoes in the world, reaching a height of 5,897 meters (19,347 feet).

Located just 50 kilometers south of Quito, Cotopaxi National Park is a natural wonder that attracts outdoor enthusiasts from around the globe.

At the center of the park is Cotopaxi Volcano, a potentially active stratovolcano. Despite its unpredictability, the volcano is a hotspot for adventurous climbers. Its last eruption occurred in 2016, but it's currently safe to climb up to the refuge point at 4800m.

Limpiopungo Lake is a popular destination within the park and offers a relatively flat 5 kilometer trail that circles the lake and provides close-up views of the volcano on clear days. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including wild horses, Andean foxes, and numerous bird species.

When visiting Cotopaxi National Park, it's essential to dress in layers, as temperatures can drastically fluctuate throughout the day. Also, due to the high altitude, it's recommended to spend a couple of days in Quito or another high-altitude location before visiting the park to acclimate.
