Eysturoy is the second-largest island in the Faroe Islands archipelago. It’s also the most populated, with around 17,000 residents. The island is home to the capital, Tórshavn, as well as a wealth of natural beauty, from rolling green hills and dramatic cliffs to sheltered bays and secluded coves. There are plenty of things to do on Eysturoy, from hiking and fishing to horse riding and whale watching. The island is also home to some of the Faroes’ most picturesque villages, including Gjógv, which is built into a narrow valley, and Eiði, with its brightly coloured houses set against a backdrop of rugged cliffs.
