Ambérieu-en-Bugey

out of 5

Ambérieu-en-Bugey is a small town in the Ain department of eastern France. It’s an unremarkable place, but it has a lot of history. The town is located on the ancient Via Agrippa, a Roman road that connected Italy with the Atlantic coast. It was also the birthplace of marshal Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, one of the heroes of the French resistance in World War II. The town is home to a few interesting monuments, including a statue of de Lattre and a 12th-century Romanesque church. There’s not much to do in Ambérieu-en-Bugey, but it’s a nice place to stop for a while on your way to somewhere else.
