Cannes, a city on the French Riviera, hosts the renowned annual film festival that attracts international celebrities. You can stroll through Le Suquet's cobblestone streets, browse fresh produce at Marché Forville, or relax on the beaches along La Croisette promenade. For a change of pace, take a short boat ride to the Lérins Islands, where you'll find forests, a historic fort, and a working monastery.

Walking Along La Croisette

La Croisette is Cannes' main waterfront promenade that extends 2 km along the Mediterranean. Palm trees border the walkway as you pass luxury hotels like the Carlton and Martinez. You can watch yachts in the harbor or spend time at one of the beach clubs. In the evening, La Croisette fills with people eating at outdoor restaurants and enjoying drinks at bars.

Discovering Le Suquet Old Town

Le Suquet, the historic hilltop area of Cannes, has narrow streets and houses with views over the bay. Visit the 11th century Tour du Mont Chevalier watchtower and Notre-Dame de l'Espérance church. In Le Suquet's winding lanes, you'll find many restaurants serving Provençal dishes like bouillabaisse and ratatouille.

Cannes Film Festival

Every May, the Cannes Film Festival transforms the city. While film screenings require invitations, you can still experience the festival atmosphere. You might see celebrities on the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals. The festival also offers free outdoor movie screenings on the beach. Outside of festival dates, you can take photos on the red-carpeted steps of the Palais.

Exploring the Lérins Islands

A 15-minute ferry ride from Cannes takes you to the Lérins Islands. On Île Sainte-Marguerite, you can hike through pine and eucalyptus forests. Tour the 17th century Fort Royal, once the prison of the Man in the Iron Mask. Île Saint-Honorat houses a monastery where monks have made wine for centuries. You can visit the vineyards and taste their wines.
