Embrun is a hidden gem in the Hautes-Alpes of southeastern France. The city is perched atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the Durance River valley. The views are simply stunning, with the snow-capped peaks of the Alps in the distance. The old city is charming, with narrow streets, stone houses, and a 12th-century cathedral. There are plenty of outdoor activities in the area, including hiking, mountain biking, and rafting. Embrun is also a great base for exploring the nearby Parc National des Écrins.
