The medieval town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie is located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the south-west of France. The town is built on the banks of the Gave d’Oloron, a tributary of the Adour River. The town is best known for its two bridges, the Pont Vieux (Old Bridge) and the Pont Neuf (New Bridge). The Pont Vieux was built in the 12th century and is one of the oldest bridges in France. The Pont Neuf was built in the 16th century and is a Renaissance style bridge. The town is also known for its two cathedrals, the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the Cathédrale Sainte-Marie. The Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a Romanesque style cathedral and the Cathédrale Sainte-Marie is a Gothic style cathedral
