Penrith is an English market town in the county of Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. It’s a convenient stop for visitors exploring the Lakes, with a good range of accommodation, restaurants and shops. The town centre is compact and pedestrianised, with a mix of old and new buildings, and a weekly market on Saturday. There’s also a small museum and a ruined castle overlooking the town. Just outside Penrith are the lakes of Ullswater and Lowther, both popular with walkers and cyclists.
