Welcome to Sidon, an ancient city on the coast of Lebanon. Known for its rich history dating back to 4000 B.C. A former home of the Phoenicians, Persians, Romans, and Crusaders.

Sidon's rich history is palpable in the Old Town, a labyrinth of narrow alleys and old stone buildings with beautiful archways. The Sidon Sea Castle, a fortress built by the Crusaders in the 13th century, is an iconic sight. Despite its age and the wear of many battles, it still stands proudly on a small island in the city's port and offers a fantastic view over the old city.

A must-visit in Sidon is the Soap Museum. The museum resides in an old soap factory and explains the process of traditional soap making. Don't forget to buy some of the locally made soap as a unique souvenir.

For those with a penchant for archaeology, you can't miss the Temple of Eshmun, just a few kilometers outside of the city. This ancient site dedicated to the Phoenician god of healing dates back to the 7th century B.C.

Sidon is also known for its delicious food. The city's public market, or Souk, is a sensory feast. Here, you can buy everything from fresh produce, spices, bread, and traditional Lebanese sweets. Make sure to try some of the city's famous desserts like knefeh, a sweet cheese pastry, and baklava.

For those who enjoy nature, the Sidon Rest House, located near the city's port, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic with views over the Mediterranean Sea. On a clear day, you can spot the island of Zireh just off the coast.

It's also worth noting that, while Lebanon's political situation can be unstable, Sidon is generally considered safe for tourists. However, as with any travel destination, it is recommended to stay informed about current events and always heed local advice.
