Tyre is a city in Lebanon. It is located on the Mediterranean coast, about 40 km south of Beirut. Tyre is the oldest and largest city in Lebanon, with a population of approximately 120,000. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city of Tyre was once famous for its production of purple dye, made from the murex shellfish. The dye was highly prized by the ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians, and was used to color the robes of royalty.
