Yangon

The largest city in Myanmar.

out of 5

Yangon is a city of surprises. Once the capital of Myanmar, it was abandoned by the military in favour of the new capital of Naypyidaw in 2005. But Yangon is making a comeback, with a growing arts and culture scene, a lively nightlife and a burgeoning food scene. The city is home to some of the most impressive colonial architecture in Southeast Asia, as well as Buddhist temples and pagodas. The city’s main attraction is the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred Buddhist site in Myanmar. Yangon is also home to the largest collection of British colonial architecture in the world. Wander the streets of downtown Yangon and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
