Turkmenistan is a land of ancient cities, snow-capped mountains, and beautiful desert landscapes. The country is home to the ruins of the ancient city of Merv, which was once one of the largest cities in the world, and the ruins of the ancient city of Nisa, which was the capital of the Parthian Empire. The country is also home to the Darvaza Gas Crater, a natural gas field that has been on fire for over 40 years.
The food of Turkmenistan is a reflection of the country's diverse culture. The cuisine is a mix of Turkmen, Russian, and Uzbek dishes. Popular dishes include plov (a rice dish cooked with meat and vegetables), beshbarmak (a noodle dish served with meat), and shashlik (marinated meat skewers).
