Funafuti is the capital of Tuvalu, a tiny Polynesian country in the Pacific Ocean. The atoll, which is also the largest in the world, is home to around 6,000 people, most of whom are subsistence fishermen. The lagoon is a beautiful turquoise and the beaches are white sand, making it a popular destination for divers and snorkelers. There is not much in the way of nightlife or restaurants, but the locals are warm and welcoming and there are plenty of places to swim, sunbathe and relax.
