Situated on the banks of Lake Victoria, Mwanza is Tanzania’s second largest city and a major transport hub. The city is a blend of old and new, with traditional Swahili architecture sitting alongside modern high-rise buildings. The city is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, with safaris into the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, as well as trips to the beautiful Lake Victoria itself. Mwanza is also home to a large market, where you can buy everything from traditional Tanzanian handicrafts to fresh fruit and vegetables.
