Cherkasy sits along the Dnipro River, where 270,000 residents enjoy 15 kilometers of sandy beaches. Walk through the "Kobzar" Museum - the world's only museum dedicated to a single book - or watch a performance at the Oblast Academic Theater. Stroll past thousands of roses in the Rose Valley or spot zebras and lions at the Victory Park Zoo.

Parks and Green Spaces

Victory Park's zoo houses over 200 animals, including lions, zebras, and local wildlife. Walking paths wind through oak and maple trees. The Rose Valley displays more than 20,000 rose bushes from May to October, with designated picnic spots and rest areas. Cathedral Park and Jubilee Park contain century-old oak trees and seasonal flower beds. In the Park of Chemists, steel and iron sculptures reflect the city's industrial heritage, surrounded by themed gardens of medicinal plants.

Museums and Cultural Venues

At the "Kobzar" Museum, you can see original manuscripts of Taras Shevchenko's masterwork, along with 19th-century illustrations and personal items. The Cherkasy Oblast Local History Museum displays Stone Age tools, Cossack weapons, and specimens of local flora and fauna. The Art Museum rotates its collection of 19th and 20th-century Ukrainian paintings seasonally. Watch drama performances at the Oblast Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater, or take children to see marionette shows at the puppet theater.

Dnipro River Recreation

Swim, fish, or rent boats at any of the public beaches along the 15-kilometer coastline from May through September. The water temperature reaches 24°C (75°F) in summer. Take a two-hour boat tour from the river port to see the city skyline and riverside neighborhoods. Local fishing guides can help you catch pike and perch in the Kremenchuk Reservoir.

Transportation and Getting Around

Ten trolleybus routes run through central Cherkasy from 6 am to 11 pm. Regular buses connect to residential areas and nearby villages. Trains depart to Kyiv several times daily, with the journey taking 4 hours. By car, you can reach Kyiv in about 3 hours via the H16 highway.
