Lutsk is a city in northwestern Ukraine, located on the Styr River. It is the administrative center of the Volyn Oblast (province) and the administrative center of the district of Lutsk. Lutsk has a population of 269,000 people.
The city was founded in the 10th century by the Vladimir-Suzdal prince Vsevolod the Big Nest and was first mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicle in 1085. It is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine.
Lutsk is a historic city with many different architectural styles represented. There are buildings from the 11th century, including the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin, and also from the 18th century, including the Lutsk Castle.
The city is also known for its many churches. There are more than 150 churches in Lutsk.
