Mukachevo is a small city in western Ukraine, right on the border with Hungary. It’s a great place to stop if you’re travelling between the two countries, as it has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and some great places to eat and drink. The city is also home to a large Roma population, and there are a few interesting Roma neighbourhoods to explore. The city centre is quite small, and easy to get around on foot. There are a few interesting churches and museums, and a lively market where you can buy anything from fruit and vegetables to traditional embroidered blouses.
