Nikopol is a sleepy little town in the far northeast of Ukraine, and the gateway to the world’s only Jewish ghost town, Berdychiv. The town is best known for its fortress, which was built by the Russian tsar in the early 1800s to protect the southern border of the empire. The fortress is now a popular tourist attraction, and offers great views of the town and the surrounding countryside. Nikopol is also home to a large number of art galleries, which showcase the work of local artists. There are several small restaurants and cafes in the town, as well as a few pubs, and the locals are friendly and welcoming. It’s the perfect place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.
