Augusta is a small town in the state of Maine in the United States. It is located on the Kennebec River, which is a tributary of the Gulf of Maine. The town is the county seat of Kennebec County. The population of Augusta was 18,261 at the 2010 census. Augusta is home to the state capitol of Maine and the University of Maine at Augusta. The town is also the site of Fort Western, the oldest wooden fort in the United States.
