As a twenty-something living in New York City, Brunch used to be a BIG part of my weekend. But, of course, I completely took it for granted. Since becoming a parent, the juggling involved in arranging a carefree afternoon is so intense it’s just not worth it. Brunch has become a thing of the past. And I’ve completely romanticized it. In this photo, I was trying to re-capture that feeling of having everything you need and want at your finger tips and zero time limit in which to finish it. I forgot the mimosa though. Or maybe I drank it… | New York in United States

I had really high hopes for New York. Maybe too high. It is definitely an exciting place, and I am sure that you can find lots and lots of fun and interesting things there. But, I came away a little disappointed. First, we stayed in New Jersey with a view of Manhattan, and then we stayed in the hipster mecca of Williamsburg for a few nights. We also spent plenty of time in Manhattan. I really enjoyed walking around some areas, especially Greenwich Village, I truly had a blast at Gotham Comedy Club, the steaks at Peter Luger's are pretty great, and the skyscrapers are very cool. BUT, I was surprised by how dirty public transport and the streets were, and especially of how poor the average meal was. I went hunting for the best bagels and pizza slices by going to well-rated places around town, and the bagels were OK, but the pizza was plain bad (perhaps, I just prefer European pizza). Other meals were over-priced and sadly did not have the quality to match their price tag. And the people were not overly friendly either. Overall, I much prefer London, Berlin, Madrid, Ho Chi Minh City, and Tokyo for a really big city. I would still go back to New York as there is so much to explore and enjoy, but I have many places that I will return to sooner.

New York has so much to offer! It didn't necessarily sweep me away, but I enjoyed it and could have stayed longer if my wallet allowed. I came in late July and it was very hot and humid. I remember walking through Central Park feeling like I was in the jungles of Costa Rica. It was rough! I ate delicious bagels, scoured the Upper East Side for tasty coffee, took the free ferry to Brooklyn, walked across the bridge, and saw some of the other iconic sites like the Statue of Liberty. I would love to go back in autumn or winter when the weather is more my element.
