Elgin is a small town in the northeast corner of Illinois, United States. It is located on the Fox River, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and had a population of 42,792 at the 2010 census. The city is probably best known for the Elgin National Watch Company, which was founded there in 1864. The company was a major producer of watches and clocks, and was the first in the United States to mass-produce watch movements.
