Getting to St. George
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines fly into St. George Regional Airport from major U.S. cities. By car, drive 4 hours south from Salt Lake City or 2 hours north from Las Vegas on Interstate 15. The SunTran bus system runs seven routes through St. George, Washington, and Ivins, including a route to Zion National Park with stops in Hurricane, La Verkin, Virgin, and Springdale.
Year-Round Recreation
More than 20 public parks connect through paved trails along the Virgin River and residential areas. Practice your bike skills at Snake Hollow bike park on pump tracks, jump lines, and training areas for beginners to advanced riders. Walk through Red Hills Desert Garden to see 5,000 plants from 350 desert species and learn about water conservation. Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making the area's twelve golf courses playable throughout the year.
Exploring the Surroundings
Drive an hour to hike through Snow Canyon State Park's petrified sand dunes and past black lava flows. At Sand Hollow State Park, swim and boat in the warm reservoir or ride ATVs across red sand dunes. Mountain bike the flowing single-track Anasazi Trail or test your skills on the rock features of Gooseberry Mesa's trail network.
Museums and Cultural Sites
Step back 200 million years at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site to examine hundreds of prehistoric tracks preserved in sandstone. Kids can experiment with hands-on science and art exhibits at the Children's Museum, housed in a restored 1930s building downtown. Watch local artists work in their studios at Coyote Gulch Art Village in Kayenta, where you can buy original artwork directly from creators. Walk through the Brigham Young Winter Home to see original 1870s furniture and architecture.
Annual Events
Each October, 7,000 participants run the St. George Marathon through the red rock landscape. The spring Ironman athletes swim in Sand Hollow Reservoir and cycle through Snow Canyon State Park. In October, 11,000 seniors compete in the Huntsman World Senior Games. Watch bull riding and roping at the century-old Dixie Roundup Rodeo, or tour 30 new desert homes during the February Parade of Homes.
