Utqiaġvik, formerly known as Barrow, is a city in the North Slope Borough of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is the northernmost city in the United States and North America, and the largest city and cultural center on the Arctic Slope. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,683.
Utqiaġvik is located on the Arctic Ocean coast, on the shores of the Chukchi Sea. It is the administrative center of the North Slope Borough. The city's original name was Barrow, after John Barrow, British Arctic explorer and geographer. In 2013, the city council voted to change the name to Utqiaġvik, which reflects the language of the Inupiat people, the area's original inhabitants.
The city is served by the Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport.
