Kunduz is a city in northern Afghanistan. It is the capital of Kunduz Province. Kunduz is located in the historical region of Bactria. The city is at an altitude of 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) and is surrounded by mountains. Kunduz has a population of about 270,000 people. The Kunduz River flows through the city. The city is home to a number of industries, including agriculture, construction, and carpet weaving. Kunduz is also home to a number of religious schools, including a madrasa that is affiliated with the Darul Uloom Haqqania religious seminary in Pakistan.
