Cariló lies 360 km south of Buenos Aires. Wild peacocks walk along sandy streets between pine trees, while families swim at beaches backed by 30-meter sand dunes. You'll find wooden cabin restaurants tucked between forest paths, beachfront cafes, and trails where you can cycle or hike through groves of pine and acacia trees.

Getting to Cariló

You can drive to Cariló on National Road 2 from Buenos Aires in about 4 hours. If you prefer flying, catch a domestic flight to Villa Gesell Airport. Daily buses run from Buenos Aires' Retiro terminal to Cariló.

Beaches and Swimming

The beach extends 3 kilometers along the Atlantic coast. The water depth increases gradually for the first 100 meters from shore, making it safe for children to swim. Water temperatures reach 24°C (75°F) during summer months (December to February).

Forest and Wildlife

Pine and acacia trees grow throughout the town, creating shaded paths between houses and shops. Peacocks wander freely through residential areas and often rest on wooden balconies. You can walk or cycle on marked trails that connect different parts of town.

Sand Dune Adventures

Rent an ATV to explore the dunes surrounding Cariló. Local rental companies provide equipment and guides for 1-2 hour tours. First-time riders get a 15-minute training session before heading out to the dunes.

Local Architecture

Wood and stone dominate the buildings in Cariló, following local construction guidelines. The main shopping area on Divisadero Avenue consists of connected wooden structures with covered walkways between shops and cafes. Most houses sit on raised wooden platforms to prevent sand accumulation.

When to Visit

Summer (December to February) brings temperatures between 25-30°C (77-86°F), ideal for swimming and beach activities.
