Macquarie Island is a remote, windswept and rugged island located in the Southern Ocean, about halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica. The island is a nature reserve and home to a wide variety of wildlife, including seals, penguins and albatrosses. The rugged coastline and dramatic cliffs are a sight to behold, while the crystal-clear waters make for perfect swimming and snorkelling. There are no roads on the island, so visitors have to get around by foot, bicycle or boat. Accommodation is available in the form of camping, hostels and lodges.
