This small town in western Herzegovina has a 15th-century fortress overlooking the Trebižat river. Local vineyards produce Žilavka wine, a regional specialty.
Ljubuški sits in Bosnia and Herzegovina's West Herzegovina Canton, along the Trebižat River valley. Walk through the 15th-century fortress perched on rocky cliffs, swim beneath the 25-meter Kravica waterfalls, or examine Roman artifacts at the Humac Archaeological Museum. The town's handball team, HRK Izviđač, plays regular matches at the municipal sports center from September to May.
The Old Town Fortress
Built in 1444, the Ljubuški Fortress spans 3,350 square meters on the Buturović mountain chain. A 15-minute walk leads you to the top, where intact stone walls and defensive structures remain. From the fortress, now a national cultural monument, you'll see across the Trebižat River valley and surrounding mountains. Open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Waterfalls
The Kravica Waterfall drops 25 meters across a 120-meter wide cliff face. You can swim in the natural pools from June to September when water temperatures reach 20°C. The smaller Kocusa Waterfall creates multiple cascades downstream. Both sites have paid parking (5 KM), marked walking paths, and viewing platforms. Visit in spring to see maximum water flow from mountain snowmelt.
Religious and Cultural Sites
The Humac Franciscan Monastery opens its Archaeological Museum daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Walk through exhibits of Roman-era artifacts, medieval stone carvings, and traditional farming tools. The monastery's library displays manuscripts and books from the 16th century onward. Guided tours in English are available with advance booking.
