Emden is a small and charming city in the far north-west of Germany, on the border with the Netherlands. It is best known for its maritime history, as the home of the German Navy for almost a century. The city is still very much a working port, and its old harbour district is now a popular tourist attraction, with a number of museums and restaurants. Emden is also a great base for exploring the surrounding area, including the picturesque villages of East Frisia and the North Sea coast.
