Aurangabad is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Marathwada region of the state. The city is a well-known center for the manufacture of Marathi-style soapstone sculptures.
The Tourism Department of Maharashtra ranks Aurangabad as one of the top ten tourist destinations in the state. The historic monuments of the city include the Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, Bibi Ka Maqbara, Panchakki, Daulatabad Fort and the Ghrishneshwar Temple. The industrial city of Aurangabad is located on the Deccan Plateau and is surrounded by the Satpura and the Sahyadri mountain ranges.
