Cittadella is a fortified city in the Veneto region of northern Italy, founded in the first half of the 11th century by the Lombards. It is located on the alluvial plain of the river Po, at the foot of the Euganean Hills. Within the city walls are the well-preserved remains of a large moat and castle. Cittadella was the seat of the bishop of Padua from the mid-13th century until 1807, when it was annexed by the Venetian Republic.
