Comacchio is a little-known gem on Italy’s Adriatic coast. A fishing town of some 20,000 inhabitants, it’s located in the province of Ferrara, in the Emilia-Romagna region. The town is built on a series of islands and is connected by a series of bridges. The canals that run through the town are a major attraction, as is the fact that the town is home to a large number of churches. The narrow streets and alleyways, and the locals’ love of a good passeggiata (stroll), make for a pleasant and relaxing visit. Don’t miss the chance to try the local seafood, especially the clams, which are a speciality of the region.
