Village in 🇮🇹Italy

Crucuris/Curcuris

Crucuris (or Curcuris), in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, southern Italy, is a village of about 1,000 inhabitants. It is located in the hinterland, about 50 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea and the provincial capital, Cosenza. The village is situated on a hill at an altitude of 650 m, in a picturesque and panoramic position. It is surrounded by forests of beech, oak and chestnut.

The village is interesting from an archaeological point of view. It is one of the few villages in Calabria where there are still visible the remains of the ancient walls (the castrum) and the foundations of the houses. The village is also home to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows, a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages.
