A coastal resort town on Italy's Adriatic coast with an 8-kilometer golden sand beach, pine forests, and modern beach clubs. Popular summer spot among Italian and Austrian tourists.
Lignano Sabbiadoro extends along 8 kilometers of golden sand beaches on Italy's Adriatic coast. You can walk on the distinctive Terrazza a Mare pier that stretches into the sea, watch 200 animal species at the Punta Verde Zoo Park, or sail from one of the town's marinas that hold 5,000 boats. Located between Venice and Trieste, this northern Italian beach town receives nearly 4 million visitors annually who come for its Blue Flag certified beaches, sea water spa treatments, and summer entertainment programs.
Three Distinct Areas of Lignano
Lignano consists of three areas. In central Sabbiadoro, you'll find the main shopping streets and restaurants. Lignano Pineta spreads through a pine forest with curved paths and Mediterranean gardens. Lignano Riviera has wide beaches lined with coastal pine trees. Each area has its own beach facilities - Sabbiadoro has 18,000 umbrellas, while Pineta and Riviera each have 8,000.
Beaches and Facilities
The 8-kilometer beach has earned the Blue Flag certification for its clean water and well-maintained facilities. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas, and use the changing rooms throughout the beach. Several designated beach sections allow dogs. During summer, the beach hosts open-air concerts, beach volleyball tournaments, and local festivals.
Marina and Water Activities
Multiple marina locations, including Aprilia Marittima, Marina Punta Faro, and Porto Vecchio, accommodate more than 5,000 boats, making this Italy's largest marina complex. From May to September, you can take a ferry between Lignano Sabbiadoro and neighboring Bibione to explore more of the coast.
Natural Areas and Wildlife
Next to the town, the Marano Avifaunistic Oasis contains salt marshes and lagoon waters where you can spot numerous bird species. Walking paths through the oasis include information panels about the local ecosystem and migrating birds that stop here during their seasonal journeys.
Year-Round Activities
The annual Ernest Hemingway literary competition takes place in June, and you can visit Monday morning markets year-round. The Sala Darsena hosts concerts in different seasons, and sports competitions happen regularly. In winter, the thermal centers use local sea water for spa treatments.
