Milano Marittima sits on Italy's Adriatic coast, where sandy beaches meet pine forests that date back centuries. Walk through the town center's Primo Maggio roundabout to find gelaterias and boutiques, or spot the distinctive Liberty-style villas from the early 1900s. You might spot rare South American butterflies at the greenhouse, practice your swing at the 27-hole golf course, or paddle through quiet canals in a kayak.

Getting to Milano Marittima

Milano Marittima lies 20 km south of Ravenna and 37 km north of Rimini on the Adriatic coast. Take a train from Bologna (the nearest airport city) or drive along the coastal road. From here, you can easily explore other towns in the Romagna region.

Beaches and Summer Activities

The Adriatic Sea's fine sand beaches stretch along the entire town. From June to September, rows of blue and white umbrellas line the shore, and beachfront restaurants serve fresh seafood. You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or sailing equipment, or spend the day swimming in the calm waters.

The Town Center

At Primo Maggio roundabout, locals and visitors gather at cafes and shops. Walk down Viale Gramsci, a car-free street, to see Brückner's model - a striking metal sculpture by Adriano Bimbi. The surrounding streets contain well-preserved Liberty-style villas from the early 1900s, with their characteristic curved lines and floral decorations.

Pine Forest and Nature

A pine forest borders the town, with walking paths and canals running through it. Take a guided kayak tour through the waterways, or try the rope courses at Cerviavventura park. Inside the Butterfly House, an 800-square-meter heated greenhouse, hundreds of butterflies and insects from South America and southern Africa fly freely among tropical plants.

Sports and Wellness

Play a round at the 27-hole Adriatic Golf Club, or watch local football matches at the "Germano Todoli" Pines Stadium. Tennis courts and the "Le Siepi" Equestrian Centre welcome players and riders of all skill levels. At Cervia Thermal Spa, treatments incorporate mineral-rich mud from the local salt pans.

Local Food and Specialties

The sweet-tasting Cervia salt adds flavor to many local dishes. Try the piadina (a thin flatbread filled with cheese, cured meats, or vegetables) from street-side kiosks. Around the canal port, restaurants serve fresh catches from the Adriatic Sea alongside Romagna wines.

Day Trips from Milano Marittima
