Nocera Inferiore is a town in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. It is the birthplace of the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso, more commonly known as Ovid. The town is located in the fertile valley of the Sarno River, and is surrounded by the mountains of the Apennines. Nocera is a commercial and agricultural center, and is also home to a large steelworks. The town is also known for its production of ceramics, olive oil, and wine.
