Tolmezzo is a small town in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, wedged between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. The town is a convenient base for exploring the dramatic Julian and Carnic Alps, as well as the wine-producing region of Collio. Tolmezzo is also home to a lively student population, thanks to the presence of the University of Udine, and there’s a good selection of restaurants and bars catering to all tastes. The town’s main square, Piazza XX Settembre, is a lively spot to people-watch, and the nearby Duomo is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture.
