Higher up in the town, you'll find Kanli Kula, or the "Bloody Tower." During summer months, this fortress transforms into an open-air theater for performances.

Herceg Novi's coastline consists of pebble beaches and concrete bathing areas. The Pet Danica Walkway, a 7-kilometer promenade, stretches from Igalo to Meljine and passes many of these beaches. From Herceg Novi, you can easily explore the surrounding area. Take a boat trip to the Blue Cave, a sea cave with intensely blue water. Visit Mamula Island to see the 19th-century fortress that's being converted into a resort. For a quieter experience, take a boat to Rose, a small fishing village only accessible by water.

You can reach Herceg Novi by bus from other Montenegrin cities or from Dubrovnik, Croatia. The closest airports are in Tivat (23 km away) and Dubrovnik (30 km away). The best time to visit is between May and October when the weather is warm and most businesses are open. Be aware that July and August can be crowded and hot.
