Chiclayo is a city in northwestern Peru, and the capital of the Lambayeque Region. It is located 13 kilometers inland from the Pacific Ocean and is the center of the Chiclayo Metropolitan Area, with a population of 789,267. The city was founded on January 1, 1535, by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
