Kingisepp is a small town in the Leningrad Oblast of Russia, located on the banks of the Neva River. It was founded in 1702 as a fortress to protect Saint Petersburg from Swedish invasions. The town has a population of just over 30,000 and is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its well-preserved historical centre and its proximity to Saint Petersburg. The main attraction in Kingisepp is the Kingisepp Castle, a 15th-century fortress that is now a museum. The town is also home to a number of other museums and historical monuments, as well as a number of parks and nature reserves.
