Saint Helena

Saint Helena is one of the most isolated islands in the world. It is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,200 miles (1,900 km) west of Africa and 1,700 miles (2,700 km) east of South America. The island is about 10 miles (16 km) long and 5 miles (8 km) wide.

The island was uninhabited when it was discovered by the Portuguese in 1502. The first settlers were British convicts who were sent to the island in 1722. Saint Helena became a British colony in 1834.

The island is famous as the place where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled in 1815. He died on the island in 1821.

The island has a population of about 4,000 people. The main industries are tourism and fishing.
