Kenting National Park covers 333 square kilometers across Taiwan's southern tip. The park includes Baishawan Beach with its white sand coastline, the 1882 Eluanbi Lighthouse perched on coastal cliffs, and coral reefs inhabited by over 1,000 fish species. Swimming, surfing, and diving are possible year-round due to the park's location between the Pacific Ocean, Taiwan Strait, and Luzon Strait.

Getting to Kenting National Park

Take the express bus from Kaohsiung's Zuoying HSR Station to reach Kenting in about 2.5 hours. Buses depart every 30 minutes between 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM. From Taipei, connect to Zuoying Station via High-Speed Rail before taking the Kenting Express bus.

Popular Beaches

Baishawan extends 400 meters along the coast, with clear waters for swimming and snorkeling during summer and autumn. South Bay (Nanwan) has rental facilities and beachside cafes. Little Bay Beach, near Kenting's main strip, sits behind a natural peninsula that blocks strong waves, making it popular with families.

Marine Activities and Wildlife

The waters around Kenting contain more than 1,000 species of fish and 200 types of coral. South Bay and Little Bay are common spots for snorkeling and diving, with equipment available from local shops. Sea turtles often nest on the quieter beaches during summer months.

Exploring Kenting Forest Recreation Area

The forest contains over 1,000 plant species across 17 marked trails. You'll see tropical plants, butterflies, birds, and reptiles throughout the area. Walking paths include flat boardwalks and steeper hiking trails, with information boards in Chinese and English.

Moving Around the Park

Electric scooters give you easy access to beaches, viewpoints, and forest areas. Rent them in Hengchun town or along Kenting's main street. The park's shuttle buses connect major sites on four routes, though service is infrequent.

Weather and When to Visit

Temperatures stay below 30°C with minimal rain from March through May and October-November. Summer can bring typhoons that affect beach access, while winter brings strong northeastern winds. Bring rain gear and sun protection in any season.

Local Food Scene

After sunset, Kenting Street fills with food vendors selling fresh seafood, Thai-inspired dishes, and local snacks. Restaurants near South Bay serve seafood from Houbihu Fishing Harbor. In Hengchun town, morning markets sell traditional Taiwanese breakfast items and tropical fruits.
