I studied for one semester at California State University in San Marcos, and lived at the campus.
San Marcos is the kind of American town that does not feel like a town at all. It is a large area of land that is called a town, but in reality it is just a few residential areas, industrial areas, a university campus, fast food places, and a strip mall. These different things are also so spread out that you need a car to move in between them. This does not make for an enjoyable experience as a visitor, nor as a resident.
The campus is nice though, and the weather is fantastic as it is Southern California after all.
I really enjoyed taking trips to nearby San Diego and La Jolla. Visit those places instead :)
