Yosemite National Park
Granite cliffs, waterfalls, and redwoods bigger than your dreams.Californian haven of towering sequoias, imposing cliffs, and a rich ecosystem, anchored by the grand El Capitan and a vibrant community.
An imposing landscape in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, synonymous with large granite cliffs and mountains you might know by their name. Ever heard of El Capitan, Half Dome, or Mariposa Grove? That is Yosemite National Park. Vast park full of trails that put some of the most iconic American nature on display.
Yosemite's most famous landmark is perhaps the El Capitan, a sheer granite rock formation that attracts climbers from around the world. Another iconic spot is the Half Dome, a massive crest of granite rising more than 4,737 feet above the valley floor. Adventurous visitors can hike to the top of Half Dome in one day, but be warned - it's not a trek for the faint-hearted.
The park's more than 800 miles of trails offer ample hiking opportunities for visitors of all abilities. Wander among towering ancient sequoias in Mariposa Grove, or go for an easy stroll around Mirror Lake. For the more experienced hikers, the challenging Mist Trail leads to the top of Vernal Fall and offers stunning views of the park.
The park is also home to a wide range of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for animals like black bears, mule deer, and bobcats. Birdwatchers may spot some of the park's many bird species, which include the great gray owl and peregrine falcon.
Yosemite offers year-round activities, with skiing and snowshoeing popular in winter months at Badger Pass Ski Area. In summer, the Merced River is a popular spot for swimming and rafting. Just remember, always follow safety guidelines and respect the park's rules to protect its natural beauty.
Camping is a popular way to stay within the park, with 13 campgrounds available. However, spots fill up quickly, so reservations are highly recommended. If camping isn't your thing, the park also offers a range of lodging options from rustic cabins to luxury hotels.
In terms of food, there are several restaurants and grocery stores within the park. But remember, you are in bear country - store your food properly to avoid attracting these large mammals.
While the park is open year-round, be aware that some areas, roads, and facilities close in winter. Always check current conditions on the park's website before your visit.
