Mykonos, a Cycladic island in the Aegean Sea, captivates with its distinctive character. You'll find iconic whitewashed buildings and windmills perched above the sea. The island pulses with energy, from its active beaches to its lively nightlife. Wander through charming villages, take a boat to the ancient ruins on nearby Delos, or unwind in quiet coves with clear waters.

Exploring Mykonos Town

Mykonos Town, or Chora, serves as the island's main hub. As you walk the narrow, winding streets, you'll see cube-shaped houses with colorful doors and window frames. In Little Venice, former fishing houses with balconies hang over the sea, now housing cafes and bars. Head to the hilltop windmills at sunset to take in the panoramic views of the town and sea.

Beaches for Every Mood

Mykonos has over 20 beaches, each with its own character. Paradise and Super Paradise beaches buzz with music throughout the day and night. For a calmer experience, visit Ornos or Platis Gialos, which have gentle waters and facilities suitable for families. Elia Beach, the longest on the island, offers water sports and areas that range from lively to quiet.

Nightlife and Entertainment

Mykonos comes alive after dark. The action starts in the afternoon at beach clubs like Scorpios and Nammos, where you can enjoy cocktails and dance as the sun sets. Later, the scene shifts to Mykonos Town, with bars and clubs staying open until dawn. For a more relaxed evening, have a drink at a waterfront bar in Little Venice.

Day Trip to Delos

A short boat ride from Mykonos takes you to the uninhabited island of Delos, an important archaeological site in Greece. According to mythology, Apollo and Artemis were born here. You can explore ancient temples, houses, and theaters dating back to the 3rd century BCE. Visit the museum to see sculptures and mosaics discovered on the site.

Getting Around Mykonos

Mykonos has a reliable bus system connecting Mykonos Town to major beaches and villages. You can also rent a car, scooter, or ATV to explore at your own pace. Taxis operate but can be scarce during peak season. Water taxis connect some of the southern beaches, offering a scenic route for beach-hopping.

When to Visit

The high season runs from June to September, with July and August being the busiest and most expensive months. May and October often have pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Many businesses close from November to April, and ferry connections are limited during this time.
