Hajdúszoboszló, a town in eastern Hungary, draws visitors to its thermal springs where you can float in iodine-rich waters or splash down a 74-meter water slide at the Aqua Palace. The town sits where three landscapes meet: the Hajdúhát ridge with its rolling hills, the grass plains of Hortobágy National Park, and the bird-rich wetlands of Great Sárrét region.
Thermal Spa Complex
You'll find 30 hectares of pools and wellness areas in Hajdúszoboszló's main spa complex. The thermal waters help with joint conditions and respiratory issues through their high iodine and mineral content. You can move between pools of different temperatures, from 32°C to 38°C. Swim laps in the Olympic-sized pool or relax in specialized thermal pools. In summer, up to 20,000 people visit the outdoor areas daily.
Aqua Palace
Seven themed pools at the Aqua Palace represent different bathing cultures around the world. The main water slide starts 8 meters high and twists through multiple turns along its 74-meter length. Children can splash in shallow pools and play areas on a dedicated floor, with changing stations and rest areas nearby. Active visitors can play squash or table tennis in the sports section.
Natural Surroundings
When you look north-northeast from town, you'll see the gentle slopes of Hajdúhát ridge. To the northwest stretch the flat grasslands of Hortobágy National Park. The southern view reveals the wetlands of Great Sárrét and Berettyó region. Several Tisza River branches create ideal conditions for water birds, making this area excellent for bird watching, especially during migration seasons.
Local Life
The town's 24,000 residents include 650 Roma, 300 German, and 100 Romanian people. While the Reformed Church counts over 11,000 members, many residents don't follow any religion. Though tourism drives much of the economy today, you'll see traditional farming practices in action in the surrounding fields.
