This coastal town on the Tuscan shore has a long pier, art nouveau villas, and protected stone beaches. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is just 12km away.
Marina di Pisa lies on the Tuscan coast where the Arno River meets the Tyrrhenian Sea, 10 kilometers from Pisa. Walk along Piazza Baleari to see 1920s Art Nouveau villas, relax on the stone beaches near the port, or explore the pine forests of San Rossore Park. On clear days, look west across the Tyrrhenian Sea to see Corsica and Elba islands, while the Apuan Alps rise to the north.
Getting to Marina di Pisa
Regular buses run between Pisa and Marina di Pisa every 20 minutes. The journey takes about 20 minutes, and the bus stops near the main promenade. If you're driving from Pisa, follow D'Annunzio avenue west for about 11 kilometers.
Beaches Along the Coast
The northern coastline has white stone and pebble beaches that act as natural wave breakers during storms. South of the town center, wider sandy beaches stretch along the shore, with beach clubs alternating with public access areas. The beach clubs provide chairs, umbrellas, showers, and changing rooms. You'll find several free public beaches between the clubs.
Art Nouveau Architecture
Walk through the town center to see early 20th-century buildings. In Piazza Baleari, Villa Bondi displays curved window frames and floral decorations characteristic of 1920s design. Villa Galli Dunn incorporates Louis XIV style elements with ornate cornices and symmetrical facades. The neo-Gothic Villa Albites includes pointed arches and intricate stonework, while Palazzo Carovigno in Piazza Gorgona has a distinctive tower rising above its main structure.
Summer Events at Marina di Pisa
The Marenia festival runs from May to September with over 100 events along the coast. You can attend music concerts, cultural shows, and sports activities throughout the day and evening. Watch the Gioco del Ponte historical recreation on the last Saturday of June, or join the summer carnival from late July to early August when decorated floats parade through the streets.
The Bocca d'Arno Area
At the mouth of the Arno River, called Bocca d'Arno, a new marina holds 344 boat moorings. This developing neighborhood borders the pine forests of Regional Park San Rossore. New residential buildings are under construction around the marina area.
Local Food Scene
The coastal restaurants serve Tuscan seafood dishes. Try the grilled catch of the day prepared with local olive oil, or order spaghetti alle vongole (pasta with clams). Many restaurants make Baccalà alla pisana - traditional Pisan cod with tomatoes and pine nuts. During summer, restaurants set up outdoor tables with views of the Mediterranean.
